GeoD Lab

Geodynamics is a branch of geophysics that studies the forces and motions inside the Earth and their effects on the surface. In the GeoD lab, our primary focus is on studying the relationship between the evolution of accretionary wedges, the surface processes, and the thermal conditions inside a wedge. Geodynamics uses physics, chemistry and mathematics to understand how mantle convection leads to plate tectonics and geologic phenomena such as seafloor spreading, mountain building, volcanoes, earthquakes, and faulting. Geodynamics also explores the internal structure and dynamics of other planets. Geodynamicists use data from GPS, InSAR, seismology, and numerical models to investigate the evolution and current state of the Earth’s lithosphere, mantle and core.

Archeology Lab

Archaeologists dig up evidence – structures, bones, pots, ornaments, tools, and other interesting material remains that throw light on our past as a species: Who were our ancestors? How did they live? How did they clothe and feed themselves? How did they cope with adversities? Conversely, archaeology not only unlocks the past but also leads us to a better understanding of today’s challenges and tomorrow’s chances of survival for humans.

IIT Gandhinagar’s Archaeological Sciences Centre was created in December 2012, with the twin objectives of establishing state-of-the-art facilities to be used by the archaeological community at large, and conducting its own multidisciplinary research in scientific aspects of archaeology. Our research and activities thus situate themselves at the intersection of humanities and scientific disciplines.
At present, Archaeological Sciences is a discipline under the Department of Earth Sciences.

REEFS LAB

Redefining Energy For Sustainability
Welcome to the REEFS Lab at IIT Gandhinagar, where we fuse earth sciences with sustainability. We focuses on unraveling Earth's past and shaping its future sustainably. We explore modern and fossil carbonates, reservoir architecture, sea-level fluctuations, and sequence stratigraphy, while embracing geothermal energy and carbon capture techniques. Through interdisciplinary synergy and technological advancements, we're committed to driving impactful research that addresses both geological complexities and energy sustainability challenges.

Micropaleontology and Paleoclimate Reconstruction LAB

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar, India. I specialize in foraminifera micropaleontology and paleoclimate reconstruction. My research focuses on using Foraminifera—marine microfossils—as powerful tools for biostratigraphic correlation (from the Cretaceous to the present), paleo-bathymetry, and paleo-depositional reconstruction. Beyond their stratigraphic significance, I am particularly fascinated by how the chemistry of foraminiferal shells provides insights into past climates. By analyzing elemental ratios and stable isotopes, of these foraminifera tests we can reconstruct ancient ocean conditions and climate variations
Trained in marine micropaleontology, biostratigraphy, and foraminiferal geochemistry, I aim to apply these skill sets to explore the co-evolution of foraminifera and climate on deep-time scales.
