A group of students visited the ONGC Regional Geoscience Laboratory (RGL) in Baroda, accompanied by Assistant Professor Sonal Khanolkar. During the visit, the group had the opportunity to explore various laboratories related to the oil and gas industry. These included facilities focused on geochemical analysis, sedimentology, petrography, and paleontology.
One of the highlights of the visit was the Core Repository, where preserved rock cores from various drilling sites are stored and studied to understand subsurface geology. The students gained firsthand insight into how these samples play a crucial role in hydrocarbon exploration.
The visit also included interactive sessions with ONGC geologists, who shared their expertise and real-world experiences in petroleum geology. They explained the processes involved in exploration, reservoir analysis, and field development.
Overall, the visit provided valuable exposure to the technical and practical aspects of geoscience in the oil industry, enriching the students’ academic understanding with real-world applications.
