Statistical Seismology

Statistical seismology is the use of rigorous statistical tools to earthquake research in order to better understand seismogenesis. This is one of the rapidly growing field that yields itself not only to seismic hazard mitigation but multiple industries like Enhanced Oil Recovery, Carbon capture and Geothermal Energy.  Given the significance of these applications to society, statistical seismology must be performed rigorously for risk assessment of projects. Moreover, it is also a important tool to understand and validate hypotheses about geological processes in the Lithosphere. Unfortunately, a shortage of educational materials and software tools makes it difficult for students and new practitioners to acquire knowledge in this field.
